Today is Valentine’s Day.  Do you know where it got it’s start?  It’s important to understand the traditions that we are a part of on a wedding day.  Most people have no idea where the cake cutting ceremony originated from, or how the tradition of something old, new, borrowed and blue got it’s start.  Many brides and grooms would NEVER consider doing a garter removal if they really KNEW where that tradition got its start.

Here are a few ideas to make tonight special.

Create a playlist on your significant other’s iPod and have it playing for them tonight when they get home.

Create a Top 10 list of the reasons why you love him or her.

Give her/him a dozen roses and attached a note to each rose with a word describing how you feel about her/him.

When he/she gets home tonight, dance in your living room to your wedding song.

Make his/her favorite meal and have it waiting for her/him when she gets home.

Whatever you do, make it personal, meaningful and special.  You will then help make this Valentine’s Day the best one yet.

Bridal showers have been around for decades.  Traditionally the Maid of Honor throws the party for the bride, however nowadays any close friend is acceptable.  Determining your guest list and budget are the first items up on your agenda when planning your bridal shower.  Next, decide on a theme to help fit your guest list.  For example, having a women’s only shower will have a much different vibe and feel than if you do a combined couples shower.

Different themes could include a kitchen theme where each guest brings a gift for the bride’s new kitchen.  Another one could be from a bride’s favorite era (1970s, 80s, 50s, etc.)  Hawaiian theme or Honeymoon Location inspired theme complete with decor and styled invitation is also quite popular.  Feel free to email me for more theme ideas.

The best way to save money is to host the party at the host/hostesses home.  Typically your wedding shower is held a month or two before the big day.  Invites should be sent out 2 to 4 weeks beforehand with RSVP’s due 1 to 2 weeks prior.  Ask bridesmaids or other close friends to help with addressing invitations.

Be sure you have an idea of how you want the shower to flow on the day of.  Make sure appetizers and drinks are ready for guest arrival.  Introduce guests to each other once everyone is present.  Play icebreaker games to create a familiar atmosphere.  Food can then be served with gifts opened once the meal is finished.  Before goodbyes, hand out shower favors to guests and encourage them to stay in touch leading up to the wedding day.
