You could have heard a pin drop….everyone in the room focused on Katie and Clay’s first dance together as husband and wife. It’s a rare occurrence at wedding receptions when you think about it…as most times people are too engrossed in their conversation, the day’s decor or in their drink they are consuming. Not Katie and Clay’s guests. Why? Why were they more focused than guests at a typical wedding happening anywhere else across America this Saturday night? Look for a future blog post covering this exact reason.Katie and Clay chose the Danforth Place as their venue and I must say Ron, Kirsten, Kristy, Mitch and the staff did an outstanding job in all facets last night. Guests arrived and were able to enjoy the candy buffet even before dinner. Candy buffets are a new trend in weddings currently and can be a nice highlight. It was fun to see guests at the end of the night try to toss candies into each other’s mouths in their somewhat intoxicated state. :) Dinner went off without a hitch and guests were invited to the buffet line via songs, which is a fun way to do it and creates the anticipation of who is going next. After dinner, we presented Katie and Clay’s Love Story followed by their good friend Steve’s rendition of “Faithfully” by Journey for their first dance as husband and wife. After that was the heart tugging songs “In My Daughter’s Eyes” by Martina McBride for the Mother/Daughter dance and “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts for the Mother/Son dance with special edits provided by yours truly with memories provided by Katie and Patti and Linda and Clay. Moments like that are so precious and wonderful to watch.

Dancing got underway and I must say it was great to see 5 different past couples of Taylored Weddings there as guests to celebrate with Katie and Clay. Thanks to Kim and Tim, Alison and Brad, Tara and Scott, Megan and Adam, Stephanie and Jason, and future clients Bridget and Nick. The party took a little bit to take off but once it was going everyone stayed and danced until midnight to music from Lady Gaga, Journey, Michael Jackson, Florida, and Nickelback…just to name a few. Thank you SO MUCH Katie and Clay for having me serve as your Wedding Entertainment Director on your wedding day.

it up with more found on her face than her mouth! A fun moment that required some clean up afterwards. Their photographer Jack Willette should have fun pictures for us of this event soon! If you plan on doing something such as this…be sure to add some time in to your timeline for clean-up! After the cake cutting ceremony, heartfelt toasts were given by Luke and Rachel, the Best Man and Maid Of Honor, followed by a blessing given by Theresa’s brother

Jason, who would become a star player later in the night. Guests were then invited to the buffet line at the Danforth Place to a fun game that everyone enjoyed….including one kid who slid into the dance floor area just to be sure that his table was the next one to go to eat!

Theresa and Michael then shared their first dance with their guests to the song “Love Of A Lifetime” by Firehouse. What followed was a very personalized, heart-feltmoment for a Father Daughter dance for Frank and Theresa to the song “Cinderella” by Stephen Curtis Chapman. Michael and his mother Mary followed to a very unique selection for the Mother/Son dance, “Thank You For Loving Me” by Bon Jovi.

The Garter/Bouquet portion was amazing….and totally staged by me after discussions with the Father of the Bride Frank, Theresa’s brother Jason, and Theresa and Michael.

What transpired resulted in a beautiful moment for Theresa’s brother Jason and his girlfriend Dana….I think you can tell what happened from the picture! The rest of the night continued with dancing to the sounds of Black Eyed Peas, Toni Basil, Journey and Cyndi Lauper…just to name a few. It was an AMAZING night with WONDERFUL families. Thank you Theresa and Michael for having me be a small part of your wedding celebration. It was a pleasure.

Exhausted. Fulfilled. A passion renewed. These words are what describes my feelings today as I write this on Sunday May 11th, 2008. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers of the world. Here’s a picture of my Mom and Dad with my kids Hunter and Kendall in Montana last June. This day is for you.

Saturday, May 10th, 2008 was the date for Alison and Brad Prey to be married. Their reception was held at the Danforth Place in Escanaba, Michigan and Ron Romps along with his staff once again proved great to work with. I put approximately 20-30 hours of prep time into their reception alone, and all of the hard work proved to be worth it to see the smiles on the faces of Alison, Brad as well as their parents throughout the night.

The night started with the personalized introductions of the bridal party, complete with including a karaoke version of the Usher Troy Sovey singing “Call Me” by Blondie and incorporating that into his introduction. Following that was our cake cutting ceremony and then a personalized toast that I helped to add to on the fly by the Best Man Steve Braun. After our sit down meal, we had two special tributes planned for Alison and Brad. Here are pics of one of the occasions. The emotion on their faces is the payoff for all of my hard work before their event. There were several other aspects of their reception that was personalized just for Brad and Alison and I was proud to play a part in creating those memories for them. Below is a customized gobo that I created to be shown on the dance floor to help create a “WOW” moment for Alison and Brad as they took the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife.

Later in the evening, one of their guests busted out into his Michael Jackson impression and we wrapped up the night with Alison, Brad and all of their family and friends on the dance floor to send them off together. It was a great way to end a night filled with love.

On that note, I’d like to encourage you to stop for a moment and tell someone that you love exactly how you feel about them. We all can make this world a better place simply by influencing others around us with positive energy.

Well, the holidays are upon us. It’s hard to believe that 2007 has almost come and gone. It has been a busy year for me and the Taylor family. From two different trips one to Montana and one to Maine, to leaving my full time day job and pursuing my dream of being a wedding entertainer full time…it’s been a roller coaster ride of emotions. My wife’s grandmother passed away just a couple of weeks ago. She will be dearly missed.

This time of year causes reflections. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the people who have assisted me throughout the year. Vendors such as (in no particular order), Keith and Michelle Freeman, Maggie Depuydt, Tiffany Albaugh, David Hakamaki, Bill Thum, Mickey Connor, Mike and Laurie from the Terrace, Ron, Kristy, Kim, and Mitch from the Danforth Place, Gary from Pine Grove CC, the ladies from Norway Mountain, Barb from Four Seasons Resort, Sherri from the Island Casino, Jack Ouelette, Ray Maki, Rhonda from Flinn’s, Joanna Amis from HobNob, Dan from Celebrations Charters, Vicki Micheau and everyone from the Delta County Chamber of Commerce, all of the vendors of the Dream Day Event Center…there are several others I am sure and you all played a role in my success this year….I thank you.

To my business associates in Lee Haynes, Ann Marie Jasso and Danielle Carlson, my web designer Sarah Chouinard, my tech guru Michael Malone, and everyone with my DJA family I say thank you for all of your help and assistance throughout this past year. Your drive and determination has been an inspiration to me.

Last but CERTAINLY not least, I say THANK YOU to my valued clients. Thank you for your belief in me and for allowing me to be a part of your special days. I’m so privileged to work with and for such wonderful people week in and week out.

Finally, I would like to say thank you to my family. Michelle, Hunter, Kendall, my Mom and Dad Harry and Peggy Taylor, my brother Kirk and his family, Michelle’s family, Mike, Judy, Kristy and Tim and all of their extended family members. You all have had my back and supported me 100% in the passion I have for my business. You are the best family infrastructure anyone could ask for.

To all reading this, take a moment this holiday season and slow down. Life moves pretty fast. We all too often get caught up in our day to day activities and forget to stop and cherish the moment that we are living in, feel our surroundings and take that breath of fresh air and experience it. Do that today. Do it now.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you.

Thanks for reading.

Mitch Taylor
