Guys get off easy in weddings in general. The Best Man is no exception. While the Maid Of Honor has A LOT of responsibility…being the Best Man is normally a piece of cake (no pun intended). Here are a few basic responsibilities that the Best Man normally has. This picture was taken from one of my favorite Best Man toasts of all time. The important thing is to have fun with your toast. Saturday, June 13th of 2009 Mordi Young married the love of his life Ashley Kutches and this picture is from Ed’s (their Best Man’s) speech. Ed and Mordi bear quite a striking resemblance to each other so they decided to use that and have a bit of fun by “switching” faces at the reception for the Best Man toast. Very creative, unique and made for a memorable moment.
1. Make plans for the bachelor party (Tip: Don’t have it the night before you get married…a la “The Hangover“)
2. Be at rehearsal and rehearsal dinner if they are separate occasions.
3. Attend the photo sessions for family and/or formal wedding portraits with the photographer, bride and groom.
4. Stand next to the Groom and be in posession of the bride’s ring until the appropriate part in the ceremony if advised to do so.
5. Tradition states that you have the honor of the first toast at the reception.
Now…if you want to be helpful and have a little more organizational skills you can also be assigned these tasks.
6. Be sure the Groom is dressed and arrives on time for the ceremony.
7. Bring marriage license to the ceremony site and sign as an official witness.
8. Make sure that all financial commitments have been taken care of for the Groom (with his money of course).
9. Ensure all Groomsmen have rented the proper formalwear with correct measurements and sizes.
10. Return any rented attire for said Groomsmen and Groom if necessary while he is on his honeymoon.
These helpful tips can go a long way toward ensuring a smooth flow of events on your wedding day.
